Glenwood Springs is a resort town in the rugged Rocky Mountains and is best known for its hot springs. Located between two iconic rivers—the Colorado and the Roaring Fork—Glenwood Springs boasts some of the best rafting, fishing, kayaking, and stand-up paddle boarding adventures in the state.

The highway into town runs right through stunning Glenwood Canyon, which features an exhilarating stretch of class III whitewater known as the Shoshone Rapids. Glenwood Canyon is also home to the striking turquoise waters of Hanging Lake, which has become one of the top hikes to do in the state. Other recreational activities include biking through the canyon, visiting our private 6,000-acre Bair Ranch for horseback riding and RZR rides, or taking a gondola ride up to Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park with the entire family.

Lakota Guides provides river adventures in Vail’s back yard on both the Eagle and Upper Colorado Rivers. In 2015, Lakota Guides leaped into land-based adventures as well, and now provides horseback, ATV,  Jeep, and sporting clay adventures.

Buena Vista / Salida / Collegiate Peaks

Located in Nathrop, Chaffee County, the Arkansas River Valley area is known as the “Heart of the Rockies” and is one of the most popular spots for whitewater rafting in the country. The Arkansas River begins its journey near Leadville and flows south past Buena Vista and Salida. Stretched between these communities is 21,586 acres of pristine canyons, rivers, and backcountry forests. This area was designated a National Monument in 2015, and Browns Canyon offers a backdrop for stunning views of the Arkansas River Valley and the Collegiate Peaks.

The Collegiate Peaks

The Collegiate Peaks Wilderness Area is named for the many nearby fourteeners of the Sawatch Range. The peaks are titled after prestigious universities, including Mt. Oxford, Mt. Harvard, Mt. Yale, Mt. Princeton, and Mt. Columbia. Our base camp is located along “The Highway of the Fourteeners,” with views of 10 of these majestic peaks. The area is also filled with many lakes, scenic overlooks, and the 13,000-foot Buffalo Peaks. Explore roads off of the Collegiate Peaks byway to discover more of this incredible wilderness area.

Browns Canyon

Browns Canyon is a recreation highlight on the Arkansas River. The canyon features granite walls that tower as natural cathedral spires above the river. This area is an outdoor adventurer’s dream with plenty of opportunities to raft, kayak, bike, horseback ride, and hike. The Arkansas River has long been considered the most popular whitewater rafting destination in America, and provides different levels of rafting experiences for all ages and abilities. The canyon includes stretches of famous rapids for the more daring, including Canyon Doors, Widowmaker, and Zoom Flume.
